When buying a couch, ask questions about the springs. Not every sales representative will have the knowledge you’re looking for; be persistent and ask for assistance from someone with expertise. Do the springs run from the front to the back? Do they spring back?

A sofa that has a pattern needs to have well-aligned fabric. Cheaper sofas may have improperly aligned fabric patterns. Since you’re spending a bit of money for a new sofa, make sure that you’re getting one that’s aligned perfectly. Remember that it will be in your home, so you want it to look perfect.

You need to know the legitimacy of a company if making a furniture purchase online. You can do this by checking them out on the Better Business Bureau and looking for reviews online. Additionally, consider the price with the tax, shipping and handling tacked on.

Check out the thrift store in your town. You can end up finding a beautiful piece of furniture that is barely used and still looks new. With a keen eye, you can scout out an amazing deal on quality items, letting you get more furniture bang for your buck.

Buy high quality pieces to save money. While the budget is crucial, increase it to go for better quality. The bargain basement sofas may be cheap to buy; however, they are probably cheaply made, as well. Spend a little more and reap the benefits over time.

If you have someone offering you furniture, you’ll need to check out the condition. You don’t want a piece of furniture that is in poor condition just because someone no longer wants it. While you might not be interested in the price for new furniture, consider whether it’s worth it to buy used furniture.

Always check that the leather on any sofa you are considering is top-grain. Some retailers try to sell faux leather sofas at real leather prices. Check out the sofa carefully and listen to the sales pitch, as well as knowing a sofa upholstered with faux leather should not exceed $800.

What does it take to master furniture shopping? Take the the tips in this piece to heart. Furniture shopping should be fun and shouldn’t have to break the bank. So, get out there and have fun!

Crazy, right? Its hard to imagine a city thats filled with Cubans, Haitians, Brazilians, Venezuelans, Argentines, African Americans (the list goes on) could be considered anything but diverse. Expert Advice On What To Look For When Buying New Furniture

Furniture shopping can be a scary proposition for the inexperienced shopper. If you don’t know what you are doing, you could find yourself paying way too much for furniture. It is important to understand exactly what to look for when buying furniture. This article will provide you with plenty of useful information.

When purchasing a couch, look for one that is well-built, then worry about comfort. Springs provide the best support for cushions. Hand-tied springs are best; however, serpentine springs are also good. Test them out by feeling and poking at them through the upholstery. Good ones are the ones that are more firm when they’re built to where they’re placed together closely.

Take a trip to the thrift stores. You may not go to thrift stores a lot or maybe you’ve never gone to thrift stores in the past. The fact is that lots of terrific furniture can be found there. You will likely find smaller items, but you might see a sofa every once in a while.

Before buying furniture, be sure you are testing it. You might want to get a couch over the Internet, but if you haven’t sat on it, you might be disappointed when it arrives. The couch might not feel good to the touch and the cushions might be a bit too firm for your liking. Buying in person is usually a better choice.

Look for furniture that can be used for a variety of purposes. For instance, you can use an amoire for storing many different things. When you aren’t using these items you are able to close the door and leave the room with a neat appearance.

Test out your recliner at the retailer. Many people fail to do this and when the furniture arrives at their home, they find out it does not work. Trying to replace it can be a headache.

Take measurements in any spoot you will be putting new furniture in. No matter what piece and size of furniture you are purchasing, always measure the amount of area to get an exact idea of what will fit. Guessing can lead to a terrible outcome. It’s particularly important to double-check your measurements for big-ticket items like full-size couches and recliners.

Learn more about a sofa’s springs. If the sales associate assisting you isn’t able to tell you more about the system, ask to talk with another employee. Check to see if the sofa springs are arranged front-to-back by pressing on the sofa seat.

Take a color sample of the wall treatments in the room that you are trying to furnish. Although you might love the look of a certain piece, you may discover that it simply does not match the style of your home after you have bought it. Prevent this from happening. You could use a paint chip or even a photo of your existing decor and carry it along when you go shopping for furniture.

Check the legs of furniture along with other vital parts to ensure it is well made and will last. They need to be solid, heavy and joined properly to frame. Metal, plastic and rubber legs scratch up floors and are weaker than wood. Look for any evidence that the legs are only nailed on, thus not joined properly to the frame.

If you buy a patterned sofa, check to see that the fabric aligns properly. Cheap sofas tend to have seams which stick out like a sore thumb. If you get a costlier sofa, get a pattern with perfect alignment. If the upholstery is not what looks good to you, then select something different.

Go to the store to see the furniture before you buy it. Online research is perfect for checking reviews, comparing prices and learning measurements and colors, but it can’t give you the ability to actually touch and examine the furniture. You’re the only person who can find out whether certain pieces are comfortable and feel right to you.

When you buy furniture, check its warranty before you buy. You don’t want to spend a fortune only to discover at a later time that the warranty conditions leave a lot to be desired. Avoid this disaster from occurring and know what damages are covered by ensuring you read over the warranty carefully.

Run inside your neighborhood thrift store and look around. You can end up finding a beautiful piece of furniture that is barely used and still looks new. By paying attention, it is possible to find a beautiful price at a great price, which will allow you more flexibility to redecorate.

Think about doing your furniture shopping online. While online shopping for this large item is not traditional, online stores often offer better deals than walk-in stores. Free delivery is common for online vendors. Shopping online may save you a great deal of money.

You should spend more in order to have better quality. It is important to follow a budget, but you should make sure quality is included. Buying inexpensive furniture isn’t usually in your best interests. Investing in a higher quality sofa will extend its life.

You can find great deals on quality furniture if you know how to shop for furniture. Without the necessary knowledge, you can spend too much on poorly built furniture. Educating yourself about what to look for and what to avoid is the best way to make sue you get what you want. You should be able to enjoy great furniture for great prices.

Identifying Efficient Solutions Of Miami

His company wasn’t going to be able to deliver many of the promised roses and other flowers by the end of the day. Angry customers started venting online, posting negative reviews of UrbanStems on sites like Google and Yelp. It was a public relations nightmare. When a small business has a crisis, it can in some ways be more vulnerable than a behemoth like United Airlines, which got plenty of attention this month after video of a passenger being dragged off a plane went viral. Small businesses don’t have big revenue streams and cash reserves to cushion them if customers flee. And negative reviews about a local business can turn away prospective customers for weeks, months or longer. Kori knew he had to move quickly to limit the damage from this past Valentine’s Day and save both his company’s reputation and the business itself. “We sent out emails personally apologizing to every customer and gave them a refund,” says Kori, whose company is based in Washington, D.C., and delivers in five metropolitan areas around the country. UrbanStems delivered the flowers without charge over the next few days. And it called disappointed recipients to let them know it was the company, not their sweethearts, that let them down. His response shows the advantage small companies can have: They don’t have multiple tiers of executives who often use precious time discussing what to do rather than taking action, says Scott Sobel, a senior executive at public relations firm kglobal. “The smaller the business, the more quickly you can react,” Sobel says. “The longer you wait, the more damage is going to happen.” United was criticized not only for the April 9 incident, but its fumbled response. CEO Oscar Munoz issued a series of statements in which he initially blamed the passenger before apologizing for United’s handling of the situation. When a company makes a mistake, experts roundly agree it needs to own up to it swiftly and show that it’s sincerely trying to make amends. “Being disingenuous will hurt you,” Sobel says. “You should try and negotiate …

LouisianaHouse Republican leaders have yet to rally around a specific package of bills. On Monday, the House Ways and Means Committee started advancing measures to change laws governing corporate taxes, individual income taxes and various tax break programs. The panel didn’t vote on concepts but simply forwarded them to the full House for consideration while negotiations continue behind the scenes. State budget Although House GOP leaders haven’t embraced a specific plan for tax policy, they have adopted their approach to next year’s more than $29 billion state operating budget . They propose to spend 2.5 percent less than the full forecast of what Louisiana is expected to collect in general state tax dollars, to hedge against concerns the forecast could come up short and force midyear cuts. House Democrats and Edwards say leaving $235 million on the table could force damaging and unnecessary cuts across government in the fiscal year that begins July 1. Republicans say the Edwards administration is using scare tactics. Almost all Democrats opposed the budget proposal approved by the House last week. Negotiations shifted to the Senate on Monday. Governor’s agenda Beyond taxes, other Edwards-backed proposals appear to be in trouble. An effort to raise Louisiana’s minimum wage hasn’t yet received a hearing, and the governor’s push for new equal pay laws in Louisiana hit a roadblock in the House labor committee, which killed one of his proposals. The full Senate will debate a second measure requiring private businesses to pay the same wages to men and women who perform the same work. But if it advances out of the Senate, it will head to the House labor committee. Proposals to rewrite Louisiana’s criminal sentencing laws, the goal being to lessen Louisiana’s tops-in-the-U.S. incarceration rate, are advancing. But some already have been watered down amid resistance from district attorneys, and more revisions are expected. Contentious debates Besides financial haggling, lawmakers have embarked on other contentious debates: The House will debate a measure aimed at protecting Confederate monuments by requiring voter approval before they could be removed from public property The Senate will consider whether to ban use of the death penalty in Louisiana. Some bills already have been shelved: The House voted down a bill to shorten the wait for a divorce when the married couple has children younger than 18. A House committee rejected a proposal to restore the voting rights of convicted felons on probation or parole Senators refused to require TOPS students to live in the state for several years or reimburse Louisiana for part of their tuition costs. . .

This chart tracks the average tax bill by ZIP code for owners of single-family homes and condominiums, and it details a wide swing from the pricey coastal areas to the less prosperous interior. For about 90 ZIP codes in Miami-Dade, the average property-tax bill comes to just over $4,300 per year, according to an analysis by ATTOM Data Solutions . Tax rates vary by city in Miami-Dade, ranging from 1.7 percent (Key Biscayne) to 2.6 percent (Opa-locka), with the county average landing at about 2.1 percent. The map illustrates how property-tax bills track real estate values: Owners of expensive homes pay far more for government services than do owners of more affordable real estate. That also means property-tax relief has more impact in middle-class neighborhoods. The Florida Legislature this week passed a bill that would add $25,000 to the existing $50,000 deduction homeowners can take on their primary residence. The extra deduction would only apply to homes worth more than $100,000, and Miami-Dade estimates the giveback would cost the county about $50 million a year in lost tax revenue. The bill requires a statewide referendum for the tax cut to take effect. [Considering a move? Here are the property-tax rates for every city in Miami-Dade County .] With a $25,000 deduction worth about $500 for the average Miami-Dade taxpayer, the state proposal would shave off a much larger percentage of the typical tax bill in Hialeah (where the average taxpayer pays about $2,100 a year) than in Key Biscayne (where the average bill is about $17,000). See where you can afford a home in South Florida Which isnt to say high tax bills arent a worry of the very rich. Barbara Lamar , a luxury real estate agent with Sothebys, said even cash buyers able to plunk down millions for a mansion will balk at the yearly bill from the government for a luxury property. They may have the wherewithal to purchase a large property, she said, but they do have to take that [tax bill] into consideration.

Miami Herald Business Plan Challenge judges liked the concept and plan for executing it. The idea would appeal to millennials, they thought, offering them a smogasbord of meal options at prices they can stomach. And they applauded the idea of attacking the issue of food waste. Mickis could partner with app-enabled restaurant services like UberEats to deliver, the judges suggested. They awarded the team second place in the High School Track. Already, there are apps that connect consumers to grocery stores and students to restaurants with discounted deals. Mickis would be among the first to connect all types of consumers to restaurants with a focus on ending food waste, the team said. One of the interesting aspects of working with students as they prepare for the Business Plan Challenge is that I always learn something new about their talents and passions. This year was no exception, said Jennifer Nero, their AP Macroeconomics/Microeconomics teacher, who uses the Challenge as a class project. Simon and Jake have been successful in our class all year long in their quiet and unassuming way. But through their development of Mickis, they demonstrated a savvy understanding of the restaurant industry and the markets appetite for good deals that can also deliver a social impact, she said. Simon and Jake both come from entrepreneurial families. Simons parents are French immigrants who created million-dollar businesses whose products are consumed all over the world: Muche et Muchette, a fashion line; and WIT Games, a video game and anime distribution company. Simon also has insight into the technological aspects of producing an app. I was really talented at coding when I was young it comes naturally to me, he said. In the summer of 2016, Simon spent a month in China working for the entertainment company SC2 Events. There he honed his Mandarin skills he has been studying the language for six years and learned about international business.

In a memo Wednesday coincidentally the same day President Trump unveiled a sweeping-tax cut plan House Speaker Tina Kotek and Senate President Peter Courtney, both Democrats, orchestrated the creation of the Joint Tax Reform Committee with the 14 lawmakers who handle the states money-making policies in the House and Senate revenue panels. The new Tax Reform Committee will hold public hearings to flesh out final details of a proposal to overhaul Oregons system of taxing corporate income. That revenue-boosting proposal already a couple-hundred pages long, Sen. Mark Hass said will serve as the second major component to a broader plan to address the $1.6 billion-deficit that looms over Oregons 2017-19 budget. The other big piece was disclosed Friday a plan to reign back the states spending through hiring freezes, revising collective bargaining rules with labor unions and curbing public employee health and retirement costs. Hass, a Democrat who is chairing the new Tax Reform Committee, said the final draft of the business tax plan may go to voters in a special election, potentially as early as this fall. That could leave the door open for a similar showdown between businesses and labor unions that ensued last year over Measure 97, the unions now-defeated business tax hike proposal. The revenue proposal now underway in Salem is similar to Measure 97: It would replace the corporate income tax with an Ohio-style commercial activity tax on business transactions not to be confused with a sales tax.

I was a kid that would always have a little trouble with following directions from teachers. Once I found out about entrepreneurship, I found out that I have always been an entrepreneur, said James Shannon, 19, owner of Breaking Bread Co. Selling things in school, the fundraisers that we would have, I would always be at the top of the class. I just found that entrepreneurship is what speaks to me. Shannon is slowing building his company from the ground up. He currently bakes in the kitchen of his on-campus North Miami dormitory and uses social media and networking events to sell his treats. He has been sharpening his skills since he was a 4-year-old child in Cape Coral baking with his grandmother. He said he has big goals for the future of his business. I see my business as the start of a great empire, said Shannon. So, right now, the business is starting out of the dorm room. But, just like Facebook and so many other businesses, I am thinking so far ahead that where I am right now just adds to the story. But I see myself, as far as the business is concerned, having a few locations, focusing on e-commerce and weddings. Shannon, a freshman-going-on-sophomore, has only been in business for four months but he has already hit the ground running, aiming for success. So far, he credits his happiness being a business owner to his customers. I would have to say the reaction that people have when they taste my product, Shannon said of what makes him proud to be self-employed. They see me: I am a 19-year-old kid. They think I do not know what I am doing but then they bite into the cupcake and their eyes light up and a smile appears on their faces. Jerry Anderson of Miami Lakes, who frequently buys cupcakes from Shannon, said the baked goods are very unique. I met James last month at the UM [University of Miami] building and I have not been able to get enough, Anderson said. He really has a gift for baking and I like it because it is different. Breaking Bread prices vary based on the product. Cakes range from $10-$20; cupcakes cost about $9 for a half-dozen to $36 for three dozen. Shannon said that he hopes to provide a unique experience with his products that ultimately give his customers a feeling of the past. The quality of the product is of such a high esteem that when you taste it, you know that no corners were cut, said the food entrepreneurship major. It was not sitting for the last day or two, it is not dry. So that is what I am trying to leave and a feeling of nostalgia. Kind of bring them back, so when they taste my products that is all that they are focusing on. They are not thinking about projects or work tomorrow or the stress that they had trying to put on the party. They just focus on the cupcake or cookie, and focus on how awesome it taste. James Shannon, 19, pulls out fresh cookies from the oven in his Johnson & Wales dormitory’s kitchen. Marcia Heroux PoundsSun Sentinel Layoffs in Florida decreased 37 percent in April over a year ago, but only a small percentage of the job cuts were in retail, an industry that has been shedding jobs nationwide. In South Florida, only one retail employer Sears, which closed its Aventura store laying off 118 workers — had planned layoffs in April, according to Chicago-based outplacement firm Challenger Gray & Christmas in its monthly layoff report. With a few exceptions, Florida so far has escaped the growing loss of traditional retail jobs nationwide. Retailers are cutting jobs in weaker economies, he said. While J.C. Penney announced in March it would close 138 stores nationwide, none of the closures were in South Florida. And while Macys announced last year it would close 100 stores, only the CityPlace store in West Palm Beach was affected in South Florida. Florida employers announced a total of 1,184 layoffs during April compared with 1,870 in April 2016, Challenger said. Most of the layoffs were in a variety of industries: financial, aerospace, construction, pharmaceutical and services. Nationwide, announced layoffs decreased 43 percent in April, to 43,310 planned layoffs compared with 64,141 in the same month a year ago, Challenger said.
